How we operate
We find inspirational local leaders to work with.
We equip them with tools to leverage their impact.
And then we provide the financial resources to send, support and supervise the workers they’ve trained.
We keep it simple. This means that over 95% of the funds we raise makes it to our partners on the ground.
What We Do:
backing local leaders
Getting behind inspirational local leaders is the heart of how we operate. These people have frequently risked their lives and always sacrificed much in reaching out to some of the world’s neediest people.
Our indigenous workers are organised and cared for by these local leaders. We combine the passion and charisma of these leaders with our expertise in developing careful systems of monitoring, governance and training. The raw potential of each of our workers is stunning. 500k helps them reach that potential.
Making giving relational
Relationship is one of our central values. As well as a tight-knit giving community, 500k does everything it can to connect each giver with the workers they are supporting. We want givers and partners to see themselves as partners in their work.
To achieve this, we do our best to provide each giver with the life-story, vision and photo of the worker(s) their giving is being directed towards. Regular progress updates are shared.
Our callings as givers
We believe being a giver is as much a part of our calling and vocation as are our day jobs.
We may not be on the frontline ourselves - but our role of humbly supporting those heroes who are, is just as crucial. This is something we should be proud of, and part of our motivation for working and serving where we are.
We can share in God’s story of generosity by generously giving ourselves. We serve Him and love others by working hard, loving the communities we find ourselves within, and sacrificially giving to support those poorer than ourselves working overseas.
Let’s earn as much as we can, live as simply as we can, and give as much as we can!
How communities are transformed
The power of love for God and love for others is transformative.
This changes communities. Impoverished people find hope and purpose. Estranged families are brought back together. Social divides and stigmatisation are broken down. Mental and spiritual health issues are ministered to. Addictive behaviours - particularly drugs and alcoholism - are combatted at their root. Release is found from chronic pain and dissociative disorders.
Mutual support communities are developed to nurture this multi-dimensional human flourishing.
Humanitarian Outreach
500k also has a fund so our givers can incubate this process.
The fund:
1. Provides basic supplies for the poor
2. Cares for orphans and widows
3. Provides entrepreneurial training

Our Story
2010 - Encounter in Asia
In 2010 just prior to commencing his medical studies, the 500k founder travelled to South Asia and was amazed at the impact indigenous people were making reaching their own people with the love of God.
He saw how local people were bringing transformation through the sharing of God’s story of generosity and through developing faith communities. He realised he wanted to make supporting these national workers his life’s work.
He was convicted that it wasn’t right that work as wonderful as this should be limited by something as ordinary as money - especially for the small sums of money involved. Each workers’ basic support was only $80 per month!
He realised there was a powerful multiplier here. If he worked as a doctor overseas he would be just one person making a difference. But if he stayed in the UK and worked as a doctor there - embracing a sacrificial lifestyle as if he were on the frontline himself - he could comfortably support 15, 30, even 60 of these national workers!
His life direction changed course from that moment.
2010 - 2014: Gathering Momentum
Inspired by the sacrifices of the frontline workers, as a student he tried to live as cheaply as possible and to donate as much as possible. This may have been taken to extremes… food shops were minimised by living off 3 pence tesco-value jelly bars, and clothes were worn till they were disintegrating!
When questioned he explained that his partners in South Asia were often struggling to put food on the table and to pay basic medical and school fees. If that was the reality of many on the frontline transforming communities with the love of God, how could he justify a luxurious lifestyle with every need and desire cared for?
This answer made sense. And slowly but surely, friends, family and even a businessman or two began to come alongside. They also started giving sacrificially to support these communities.
2014 - Launch in Earnest
By 2014, this band of givers was starting to realise they could be more than just a group of friends giving what they could to help the community transformers.
The model was working and producing real results. And without any considerable intentionality, the project was already starting to scale.
This was when we realised this was something which could change the world. And that was when we launched 500k.
The Adventure Since
This group of friends quickly started travelling far and wide to recruit supporters for their cause. New givers wanted to join the community and it quickly spread to Europe, America, Africa and Asia.
Though we’ve grown significantly since, we still retain our close community feel.
The workers on the ground celebrate new givers coming on board. And the givers celebrate each new story they hear of communities developed and lives transformed as the story of God’s generosity spreads.
PRAY
Sharing the love of God and the story of His generosity is crucial to us. We believe prayer is the most powerful way each of us can contribute to what He’s doing in our world.
